Eliza Gilkyson, What Do You Listen to When You Clean the House?
“I’ve been listening a lot to this East African band called Tinariwen. I’ve been just wearing it down. It’s a band from Mali that has been so overlooked by the whole music scene. What everyone’s saying about them is that you can really hear the connection to the blues in this music. It’s super raw. It’s got this African sound, but with this funky little overdriven guitar moving through it. These guys were freedom fighters and literally met in the trenches and became a band and put down their weapons. It’s one of the most direct conduits to the roots I’ve ever heard.”
Singer-songwriter Eliza Gilkyson teams up with Lucy Kaplansky and John Gorka in the contemporary folk supergroup Red Horse at the Eighth Step at Proctors in Schenectady at 7:30pm on Saturday. Tix are $28.
