MUSIC: The Doug Kwartler Band @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The acclaimed Boston-based singer-songwriter leads a crack band that features Son Volt guitarist Mark Spencer, upright bassist Rusty Chander and drummer Ben Dicke. 7pm. $16.

MUSIC: Eleanor Friedberger @ the Spotty Dog, Hudson. As half of the Fiery Furnaces (with her brother Matthew), she established herself as a musical force to be reckoned with. With her 2011 debut solo album, “Last Summer,” she landed on a whole batch of Best of the Year lists. And now she’s coming to Hudson… with John Wesley Harding, no less. 6pm. $7.

MUSIC: The Elvis Birthday Bash @ the Ale House, Albany. For the annual tribute to the King of Rock & Roll, Mark Gamsjager & the Lustre Kings celebrate Elvis’ 77th birthday with Johnny Rabb and a batch of other special guests. 8pm. $10.

DANCE: “Sleeping Beauty” @ Proctors, Schenectady. Performed by the Moscow Festival Ballet. 2pm. $20, $35, $40 & $55.

MUSIC: The Tim Olsen Quintet @ the Stockade Inn, Schenectady. Pianist-composer Olsen leads his band – saxophonist Eric Walentovich, trumpeter Steve Lambert, trombonist/drummer Rick Rosoff and bassist Pete Toigo – in a two-hour concert, followed by an hour-long open jam session. 4pm. $15; children & students $5.

THEATER: “Sylvester & the Magic Pebble” @ The Egg, Albany. Enchantment Theatre uses projected scenery and animation combined with masked actors, puppets, theatrical magic, music and dance to stage this much-loved children’s book by William Steig. 3pm. $12.

MUSIC: The George Cole Quintet @ the Hudson Opera House, Hudson. The jazz guitarist-vocalist has been described as “one part Django Reinhardt, one part Michael Buble.” 4pm. $20.

OPERA ON FILM: “Faust” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Under the direction of Tony Award winner Des MacAnuff, Jonas Kaufmann takes on the title role, with René Pape as the devil and Marina Poplavskaya as Marguerite, in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Gounod’s classic retelling of the Faust legend. 1pm. $25; children under 12 $15.
