Club Helsinki in Hudson welcomes Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and his band at 9pm on Friday, January 27 in support of Moore’s latest album, “Demolished Thoughts,” produced by Beck. Tix are $18 in advance; $20 at the door. Also freshly added to Helsinki’s ever-growing schedule are Nippertown’s own soulful singer-songwriter Sean Rowe at 9pm on Friday, February 3 ($15) and the double-bill of Lake Street Drive and Miss Tess & the Bon Ton Parade at 9pm on April 14 (ticket price TBA).
New Orleans blues-jazz powerhouse the Joe Krown Trio returns to Red Square in Albany on March 27, having landed on a number of Best of the Year lists with their 2011 debut at the club.
The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown will play host to a pair of pop concerts in April. Jazz guitarist-vocalist John Pizzarelli steps into the spotlight at 8pm on Friday, April 6 ($42; students $38), while veteran singer-songwriter Janis Ian makes a tour stop at 8pm on Friday, April 20 ($40; students $35).
Voorheesville High School will play host to the Grammy Award-winning jazz vocal ensemble New York Voices at 7:30pm on Friday, February 3. The quartet of singers features Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, Lauren Kinhan and Shaker High School alum Kim Nazarian. Tix are $25.
Jillian’s in Albany has added a batch of new shows to its calendar, including the Zach Deputy Band at 9pm on Wednesday, February 29 ($14 in advance; $16 at the door); alt-rockers Filter on Tuesday, March 6 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door) and the all-female Zeppelin tribute Lez Zeppelin on Thursday, April 12 ($10 in advance; $12 at the door).
Nippertown saxman Brian Patneaude and his jazz quartet celebrate the release of his new CD, “All Around Us,” at the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center in Albany at 7:30pm on Saturday, March 3. Tix are $10.
The Egg in Albany is hosting “Laughs Against L & L,” a comedy showcase performance to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, at 7:30pm on Friday, February 17. Slated to perform are comedians Andy Ennaco, Sharon Dyer, Carlisle Carey, Brett Eidman, Russ Davignon, Shawn Gillie, Benita Zahn, Sandy Beach, Jaye McBride, Matt Kelly, Greg Aidala, Michael Raive, Frank Gentile, Jennifer McMullen and Ava Kaye Levy. Tix are $20.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs added Michel Camilo to the line-up for Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival. Bob Stillman was also added to the cabaret series at SPAC’s Spa Little Theater.
