DANCE/MUSIC: Saakumu @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Master ghili/marimba player Bernard Woma leads his spirited dance troupe in a joyous performance of music and dance from his homeland of Ghana in West Africa. Attendees are encouraged to bring drums and join in the fun. 4pm. FREE with museum admission.
TALK: “Precious and Splendid Fossils: Our Evolving Understanding of Outsider Art” @ MCLA’s Gallery 51, North Adams. Jamie Franklin, curator at the Bennington Museum, discusses outsider art in conjunction with the current exhibition “Visions from the Edge: The Artists of Pure Vision,” which is on view through Sunday, February 19. 5:30pm. MUSIC: David Guetta @ the Washington Avenue Armory, Albany. The dance music master fires up the beat as he brings his Winter White Tour to town. Guetta is nominated for two Grammys – Best Dance Recording for “Sunshine” and Best Dance/Electronica Album for “Nothing But the Beat.” 8:30pm. $35, $55.
READING: Alan Lightman @ UAlbany Campus Center Assembly Hall, Albany. The theoretical physicist, best-selling author and explorer of the intersection between the sciences and the humanities reads from his most recent book, “Mr. g: A Novel About the Creation.” 8pm. Also a seminar at the Assembly Hall at 4:15pm. Both are FREE.
