Charlie Smith has a voice like a well-worn gravel road – he’s racked up the miles, quite a few of them on foot in the rain with packs of hungry coyotes howling in the distance. Still, with the unflagging optimism of the long-haul itinerant bluesman, he sees a candle in every window and a welcome mat on every porch. Here, he opens for the Doornails at the Ale House in Troy last Saturday night – accompanied by Ted Hennessy and Gene Lemme.
