Beware the Ides of March…

MUSIC: Shanren @ Chameleon’s, Pittsfield. They come from the Yunnan Province of Southern China. Their name means “mountain men.” This is their first U.S. tour. With Wringer, Noumenon and SufferDie. 8pm.

LECTURE: Jenny Holzer @ Williams College’s Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall, Williamstown. The internationally acclaimed contemporary conceptual artist will deliver the Fulkerson Leadership in the Arts Lecture. 7pm. FREE. Followed by a reception at 8:30pm.

FILM: “They Call it Myanmar: Lifting the Curtain” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. The story of Burma, told with stunning footage shot clandestinely over a 2-year period by filmmaker Robert H. Lieberman, provides an astonishing and intimate look inside at what has been one of the most isolated countries on the planet. 7:30pm. $7; students $5.

FILM: “El Sicario, Room 164” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Director Gianfranco Rosi tells the take of a hitman for the drug cartels in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. 5:30pm. $7; students $5.

MUSIC: Ravi Coltrane Quartet @ the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center, Albany. The second-generation jazz saxophonist-composer-bandleader blows into town. 7:30pm. $25.

COMEDY: The Irish Comedy Tour @ the Colonial Theatre, Pittsfield. Featuring Derek Richards, Mike McCarthy and Dublin’s own Keith Aherne. 7:30pm. $25.

MUSIC: “Simply the Best” @ Vapor, Saratoga Springs. Karen Durrant does double duty as a tribute artist in homage to Tina Turner and Donna Summer. 7pm. $20.

MUSIC: Cancer @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Featuring members of such bands as Coughing Fit, Legit and Banzai Washout, Cancer headlines the 3-Bands-for-$3 night, along with the Mysteios and the Chase Bastards. 8pm. $3.

FILM: “The Economics of Happiness” @ The Linda, Albany. The documentary film offers not only a big-picture analysis of globalization, but a powerful message of hope for the future. Reception at 6pm; film at 7pm. $6.
