Blues Music Competition Comes to Downtown Albany

The City of Albany and the Downtown BID will be presenting a Blues Music Competition from 5-9pm on Friday, May 4 at a variety of downtown venues.

Similar to the Downtown Albany Jazz Fest Competition, which was held at 10 different downtown Albany nightspots last September, a number of local and regional blues bands will perform at different venues along the Pearl Street corridor, and audience members will be able to roam from club to club listening to the bands and voting for their favorites.

An application for bands to interested in participating must be submitted by 3pm on Friday, April 6, along with two songs (mp3 files) and a promotional photo (jpeg format). Applications can be emailed to [email protected], or you can also mail or drop off your application in person to the BID office at 40 North Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207.

A panel of judges will choose contestants to perform on Friday night, and the top three performers of the evening – as judged by audience members – will win the opportunity to perform at the upcoming Alive at Five Blues Night (date TBA) at Albany’s Riverfront Park this summer.

Bands that compete in the Friday night competition will be paid $100 for their performance, and the three winners that will perform at the Alive at Five concert will be paid $500.

Music competitions are a great way for musicians to practice in front of a crowd, another contest I found was Make a Star, Because it is an online competition, you can enter without even leaving your house, and still reap the rewards of your music being listened to by a whole new crowd of people, check it out –
