RISK! Live Show @ The Linda on Saturday

The art of storytelling has been enjoying quite a resurgence in recent years, thanks to shows like RISK!, the Moth and the Capital Region’s own Front Parlor Storytelling Series.

RISK! is a podcast and live show “where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public.” Hosted by Kevin Allison (of the legendary TV sketch comedy troupe the State), the award-winning RISK! live show takes place monthly in New York and Los Angeles, and now it’s about to make its Albany debut at The Linda on Saturday night.

The local line-up for this Saturday’s Risk! Live Storytelling show is:

Michael Oatman
Gregor Wynnyczuk
Kurt Przybilla
Kate Sweater
Chrissy Swanson

Of course, Kevin Allison will be on hand to host Albany’s inaugural RISK! show, and as a bonus, power-pop trio the Charlie Watts Riots will provide rockin’ musical interludes.

The inaugural RISK! Live Show arrives at The Linda in Albany at 7:30pm on Saturday (April 28). Tix are $17.

BUT WAIT… Have we got a deal for you! We’re giving away A PAIR OF FREE TIX to the show to one lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. The art of story telling is going by the wayside in the digital world. I miss my great grandfather telling me stories if Albany at the then of the century abd me telling friends if those stories. The magic of someone spinning a tale is amazing

I love storytelling – especially geared to adults or families – and I am so thrilled that it seems to have gained a bit of momentum in the Capital District. The first storytellers I heard were at Caffe Lena’s and at The Eighth Step in their old location in the basement on Willet St. The Sweetland Storytellers would transform the space into wherever the imagination took us – Eastern Europe, Russia, The old Deep South, VietNam – amazing times. But my absolute favorites are the stories with humor – they’re the Best! Which is one of the reasons I would be so excited to win tickets to Risk! it sounds like it will be great time!

I love the Front Parlor storytelling events and this looks to be even more fun with the Charlie Watts Riots – I hope I win, but will see you there either way!
