Bruce Johnston, What Was the First Album You Ever Bought?

“Well, how about the first single? It was 1947 – ‘Manana’ by Peggy Lee. ‘The roof is always leaking/And the rain is pouring down. Manana, manana, manana is good enough for me.’ It’s like ‘Barbara Ann’ – very baby-ish.

The first album that I ever bought was probably the gold, five-album package of Glenn Miller recordings. That was probably the first album that I bought.

Actually, if you want to take it to my age, probably the first album that I bought would have been something on ten-inch because they had ten-inch LPs back in those days.”

Bruce Johnston and the rest of the surviving Beach Boys have reunited – yes, including Brian Wilson – and they’re bringing their 50th anniversary tour to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs at 8pm on Saturday (June 23). Reserved amphitheater tix are $35, $75 & $125; lawn general admission is $27.50.
