7/9/12: Today’s Tips: Monday

MUSIC: Emefe @ Red Square, Albany. Founded three years ago by drummer Miles Arntzen, the whopping 11-piece band champions the AfroBeat sound of Fela Kuti and Antibalas. With Oobleck. 9pm. $10.

MUSIC/TALK: Golem @ Barrington Stage Co., Pittsfield. New York City-based acclaimed klezmer band entertains with its brash, unique style of old-time klezmer, Yiddish theater music and Eastern European folk juiced with rock ‘n’ roll energy and a 21st century sensibility. Preceding the concert, host-critic-author Seth Rogovoy puts the music of “Fiddler on the Roof” and Golem into context of hundreds of years of klezmer history in a multimedia program. 7pm. $25 & $30.

CIRCUS: Circus Smirkus @ Saratoga Race Course, Saratoga Springs. The international Vermont-based circus features more than two dozen teenage and pre-teen performers. 1 & 7pm. $20; children $17; under two years old FREE. Also 1 & 7pm on Tuesday.

MUSIC: The New York Jazz Duo @ Dana Park, Albany. The little pocket park at the corner of Madison Avenue and Lark Street kicks off its summer concert series tonight. With Citizen Genet. 6pm. FREE.

BASEBALL: The Tri-City ValleyCats @ Bruno Stadium at Hudson Valley Community College, Troy. The ValleyCats face-off against the Aberdeen IronBirds. It’s also Governor Andrew Cuomo Bobblehead Night, and the first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive a free Cuomo bobblehead. 7pm.

MUSIC: Kyle Esposito’s Backburners @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. The busy bass master (Connor Kennedy Band, Mambo Kikongo, Rethink Pink, Naked and Todd Nelson’s TN3) switches over to guitar and vocals as he celebrates his birthday and leads his genre-hopping band – which just happens to feature bassist Doug Marcus, steel guitarist Kevin Maul, drummer Manuel Quintana, keyboardist Ross Rice and percussionist Bob Resnick. 8pm. FREE.

READING: Frank Bidart @ Skidmore College’s Davis Auditorium, Saratoga Springs. The NYS Summer Writers Institute hosts a poetry and fiction reading. With Claire Messud. 8pm. FREE.

FILM: “Mountains of the Moon” @ Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. The Adventures in Exploration film series continues with Bob Rafelson’s 1990 film. 3pm. FREE.
