Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

In support of his recent album, “Between the Times & the Tides,” Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Renaldo will be serving up a performance at Basilica Hudson in Hudson at 9pm on Friday, July 27. Poet and longtime Andy Warhol cohort Gerard Malanga will open the show with a spoken word performance. Tix are $20.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Two of Nippertown’s rival country music radio stations are both throwing outdoor music fests at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds in Ballston Spa later this summer. The WGNA Summer Picnic takes over the fairgrounds in August with Chris Cagle headlining, with support from Jason Michael Carroll and Greg Bates. Tix are $20 in advance; $30 at the gate. Meanwhile, 104.9 The Cat has announced the Kickin’ It Country 2012 fest for September with Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan and Steel Magnolia, as well as Local 518 country faves Chelsea Cavanaugh and Skeeter Creek. Tix for Kickin’ It Country 2012 are $25 in advance; $35 at the gate; children 10 and under free. All tix are general admission and will go on sale at 10am on Saturday (July 21).

The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock plays host to twangmaster Bill Kirchen & Too Much Fun at 9pm on Friday, July 27 ($20); the father & son guitar duo of Murali & Larry Coryell at 9pm on Saturday, August 4 ($30); and the Jorma Kaukonen Acoustic Duo (with Barry Mitterhoff) at 8pm on Wednesday, September 12 ($25, $35 & $45).

Wu-Block – the all-star hip-hop collaboration of Wu Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah and D-Block’s Sheek Louch – is slated to take over the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Friday, September 14. Tix are $23 in advance; $25 at the door. Meanwhile, Sublime tribute band Badfish is returning to Clifton Park for a show at 7:30pm on Thursday, December 27. Tix are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Tix for both shows go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 20).

Club Helsinki in Hudson welcomes the Omi Improvisers Orchestra featuring Karl Berger and Ingrid Sertso at 5pm on Sunday (July 22). Admission is FREE. Also upcoming, reggae greats Inner Visions at 8pm on Thursday, August 9 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door).

Dutch DJ-musician-producer Tiesto brings his Club Life College Invasion Tour 2012 to the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany at 7pm on Thursday, October 4. With Swedish electro house duo Dada Life. Tix are $37.

Junior Toots – the son of soulful reggae legend Toots Hibbert – makes a tour stop at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock on Saturday, August 11, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence. Opening the show at 8pm will be Irae Divine and Royal Khaoz. Priced at $20, advance tix are available online. Tix will be $25 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The haunting traditional/contemporary Celtic band Clannad is making their first U.S. tour in 18 years, and The Egg in Albany has got ’em booked for a September concert.
