Real Good for FREE: September in the City Art Fair @ Albany’s Tricentennial Park

Yes, it’s hard to believe, but there will be no Alive at Five concert down in Albany’s Riverfront Park. The Alive at Five concert season is over for another year.

But live outdoor music will keep coming to downtown Albany for at least another month, thanks to the September in the City Art Fair, which is slated to take place every Wednesday lunchtime (11:30am-2pm) throughout the month of September in Tricentennial Park at Broadway & Columbia St. in Albany (across the street from the Albany Center Gallery).

In conjunction with the concerts, the art fair will also feature art exhibits and sales by regional artists in a variety of media. Artists and craftspersons interested in exhibiting can find applications here.

Here’s the schedule of featured musicians for the 2012 September in the City Art Fair:

M.R. POULOPOULOS
September 5
By turns intelligent, soulful, melodic and melancholy, M.R. Poulopoulos is one of Nippertown’s most eloquent singer-songwriters. His wide-ranging influences share a common foundation in American blues and roots music, but his sound is very much his own. His debut solo album, “Greenhorn,” was released last year, but he has also performed as half of the acoustic duo Platypus with Matt Durfee.

HAND HABITS
September 12
Hand Habits is the musical moniker of guitarist, singer and songwriter Meagan Duffy, who has made her mark of the contemporary Nippertown music scene as musician and collaborator with the likes of MaryLeigh & the Fauves, Olivia Quillio and Babe City.

BEN KN
September 19
Ben KN is an electro-acoustic musician and former frontman for Jupiter Sunrise. His debut solo EP, “We Are Giants Now,” was one of the most acclaimed Nippertown records of 2008.

RAMBLIN JUG STOMPERS
September 26
The members of the all-star Albany acoustic-funk quartet – Bowtie, Cousin Clyde, Mr. Eck and Wild Bill – are seasoned musicians who come armed with jugs, washboards, banjos, mandolins, ukulele, the kitchen sink and a decidedly off-center sense of humor. All-around entertainers as well as musicians, the foursome creates their singular ramblin’ style with a mix of jug band music, folk, bluegrass, old-time jazz and the blues.
