MUSIC: The Great Eighth Step Anniversary Homecoming Concert @ the Eighth Step at Proctors, Schenectady. The Eighth Step celebrates its 45th anniversary with an all-star line-up of performers, including Addie & Olin-Unleashed!, Annie & the Hedonists, Betty & the Baby Boomers, Jeff Gonzales, Cathy Winter, Harmonious Hogchokers, Jay Mankita, Roger Mock, Rick Nestler, Lui Collins, Dan Einbender, Laurie Siegel & Creek Iverson and Glenn Weiser. 7pm. $28.
MUSIC: “Ricky Nelson Remembered” @ the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. Ricky Nelson’s twin sons with Matthew & Gunnar Nelson pay tribute to their dad with a multi-media presentation – singing his songs, celebrating his life and telling stories about their family. Never-before-shown interviews with such artists as Paul McCartney and Chris Isaak combine with music and tales from Matthew and Gunnar to make a heartfelt homage. 8pm. $20, $28, $32 & $36.
MUSIC: Laura Marling @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. The sublime, young British singer-songwriter brings bring Working Holiday tour to town for a solo performance. 8pm. $19.
MUSIC: Michael Benedict & Bopitude @ First Unitarian Society of Schenectady’s Whisperdome, Schenectady. A Place For Jazz continues its fall season with Benedict’s all-star band featuring Bruce Barth and Gary Smulyan, as well as homegrown heroes Brian Patneaude, Mike Lawrence and Chris Pasin. 7:30pm.
MUSIC: The Wiyos @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Versatile acoustic trio. With Ana Egge in support of her new album, Bad Blood, produced by Steve Earle. 8pm. $18 in advance; $20 at the door.
FILM: “Radio Unnameable” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. This documentary film by Paul Lovelace and Jessica Wolfson paints a fascinating portrait of influential WBAI-FM radio personality Bob Fass, who revolutionized the airwaves by developing a patchwork of music, politics, comedy and reports from the street, effectively creating free-form radio. 8:30pm. $7; students $5.
MUSIC: National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba @ Proctors, Schenectady. In their first U.S. tour, the orchestra features acclaimed pianist Ignacio ‘Nachito’ Herrera and performs works by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Prokofiev, Gershwin and Lecuona. Composer Guido Lopez-Gavilan will also make an appearance as the conductor of his own piece, “Guaguanco.” 8pm. $20, $35, $40 & $55.
FILM: “Stars in Shorts” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Seven short films (all from the last year and a half or so) featuring famous actors – Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley, Julia Stiles and Lily Tomlin. The films are a real mix – comedy, sci-fi, drama, even a musical – and they come together nicely as a well-rounded theatrical presentation. 6pm. $7; students $5.
