Nipper’s Cool Holiday Gift Suggestion #13
GIFT: “He Is My Story: The Sanctified Soul of Arizona Dranes”
AVAILABLE FROM: Tompkins Square
COST: $25
Nominated for a Grammy in the Best Historical Album category, “He Is My Story: The Sanctified Soul of Arizona Dranes” is a combo package featuring a 16-song CD and 50-page book about the blind, Texas-born, gospel-boogie singer-pianist of the 1920s. The book was researched and written by former Nippertonian Michael Corcoran, one of Albany’s best and controversial music writers during the early ’80s, when he published The Albany Lark – a short-lived humor, music, pop culture ‘zine – and also wrote for some of the Local 518’s more respectable publications.
