Be Here Now: Daniel Bachman @ the Spotty Dog, 1/24/13

WHOA!

I gotta admit that I’d never heard of early-20-something guitar phenom Daniel Bachman until this past weekend when I stumbled across his amazing playing… and lo and behold, he’s playing at Nippertown’s coolest multi-purpose bookstore/bar/concert venue the Spotty Dog Books & Ale in Hudson on Thursday evening (January 24).

If you’re a fan of John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Jack Rose and the rest of the acoustic steel-string guitarists who tend to get lumped into that American Primitive Guitar bag, you might already be familiar with the fab Fredericksburg, Virginia native who describes his sound as “psychedelic Appalachia.”

Check out Bachman’s album Seven Pines on the Tompkins Square label. (He performs the title track as the second selection in the above video.)

Or better yet, go and see if he can really do all of this live on a guitar…

Daniel Bachman plays at the Spotty Dog Books & Ale in Hudson at 8pm on Thursday (January 24). With guitarist-drummer Ian McColm. Admission is $5.
