Gorgeous Singer-Songwriter Dan Charness at Mocha Maya in Shelburne Falls, MA Feb. 1 [Berkshire on Stage]

By Larry Murray

There is something about contemporary songwriters that, when they have a foundation in classical technique and history, their compositions become simply gorgeous to listen to. It seems to me that their songs are a little more complex, often deeply rooted in personal experience and for the listener, a delight to recall. Perhaps it’s that exposure to the greats of the past three or four centuries. They are, when added to the music of the current era, like a songwriters library of music. There is so much to draw from, offering infinite possibilities upon which to base their own creative ideas on.

That pretty much describes the exceptional songwriting and singing talents of cello-trained Dan Charness whose career has taken off as a “popular” musician.
