Catskill Recording Studio Racks Up Honors

Old Soul Studios racks up nominations in this year’s Independent Music Awards.

Kenny Siegal’s Old Soul Studios in Catskill has been recording some first rate records for more than a decade, but recently the studio snagged nominations in five different categories for this year’s Independent Music Awards.

Johnny Society’s Free Society brought in nominations for Best Rock Album, while the band’s song “Town Hall” earned a nod for Best Rock Song. And Kenny Siegal, Brian Geltner and Bryce Goggin – producers of the album – have been nominated for the prestigious Best Music Producer honors.

Meanhile, Langhorne Slim’s The Way We Move is one of the nominees in the Best Alt Country Album category, and the Wiyos’ Twist is in the running for Best Concept Album.

The nominees for the 12th annual Independent Music Awards were selected from thousands of entries that were submitted from all around the globe. Among the panel of judges are Tom Waits 7 Kathleen Brennan, Ziggy Marley, Suzanne Vega, Meshell Ndegeocello, Del McCoury, Pete Wentz, Shelby Lynne, G. Love, Jim Lauderdale, McCoy Tyner, Brandi Carlile, John Medeski & Chris Wood, Judy Collins, Raul Midon, Andrea Marcovicci, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Bernie Worrell, Jeremy Taggart, Toots Hibbert, Dennis Diken, Joel Madden, Arturo Sandoval, Jonatha Brooke and others.
