Rockin’ On the River Line-Up of Bands Announced

The schedule for Troy’s weekly Wednesday night Rockin’ On the River concert series has been announced, and there are some changes.

Unfortunately, the changes don’t involve the tribute band mania which took hold of Rockin’ On the River last summer and apparently will still be raging throughout the summer of 2013.

The concerts in June and July will take place in the usual spot, the Green Island Bridge Parking lot just north of the Green Island Bridge. But the August shows will move to Troy’s Riverfront Park. All shows are rain or shine, and in the event of inclement weather, organizers will be erecting a huge tent.

All concerts take place at 5pm on Wednesdays. And of course, admission is FREE.

Here’s the 2013 line-up of performances for Rockin’ On the River:

THE GREEN ISLAND BRIDGE PARKING LOT SHOWS
June 19: Aquanett (80’s rock tribute band)
June 26: Start Making Sense (Talking Heads tribute band)
July 3: Separate Ways (Journey tribute band)
July 10: Funk Evolution (Yeah! Not a tribute band!)
July 17: The Bayside Tigers (’90s rock tribute band)
July 24: Exiles on River St. (Rolling Stones tribute band)
July 31: Robert Eric (Billy Joel tribute band)
THE RIVERFRONT PARK AMPHITHEATER SHOWS
August 7: Astrograss (Brooklyn bluegrass band)
August 14: Hope Road (Bob Marley tribute band)
August 21: Mookie Blaylock (Pearl Jam tribute band)
August 28: Almost Queen (Queen tribute band)

Sad face. Look forward to having a little fun close to home, as in cold beer on hot, sunny evenings and walking home. Guess I’ll save a few bucks.

While the over-reliance on tribute bands continues, I have to say I LOVE the name of the Pearl Jam tribute band. One of the great fragile point guards of our time! 🙂

You mean people would attend if original bands were playing? When did that start in this area?

As Uncle Jed used to say, “Pitiful, jes pitiful.”
