FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival @ the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Day One features Arturo Sandoval, David Sanborn & Bob James, Gregory Porter, the McCoy Tyner Quartet with John Scofield, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, the all-star Cookers, Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Gamak and lots more. 12noon. MUSIC: Bill Kirchen & Friends @ the Ale House, Troy. The telecaster twangmaster heads back into town to celebrate his birthday and his brand new album, Seeds & Stems. With singer-songwriter Billy Eli & the Spook Lights (featuring Kevin Maul, Erin Keyfitz and Tony Markellis). This gonna be a party! 8pm.

FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Beacon Riverfest @ Riverfront Park, Beacon. From Chicha Libre’s Latin rhythms and psychedelic surf sounds to Erin Hobson’s heavy guitar grooves to Jack Grace’s hillbilly lampooning with Van Hayride and lots more, Beacon’s Riverfest has got a whole mess of great music on tap. 12noon-8pm. It’s Day Two of the three-day fest, featuring the Johnson Girls, Gordon Bok, Chris Norman & David Greenberg, Footworks, the Claire Lynch Band, Beppe Gambetta and more. MUSIC: Connor Kennedy @ Levon Helm Studios, Woodstock. The young Woodstock guitar phenom celebrates the release of his new CD. With Mike + Ruthy and students from the Paul Green Rock Academy. 8pm. $20 (includes a copy of the CD).

PERFORMANCE: “A Prairie Home Companion” @ Tanglewood, Lenox. Garrison Keillor leads the cast through the live radio broadcast. With musical guests jazz/pop/folk vocalist Heather Masse (of the Wailin’ Jennys), harmonica master Howard Levy (of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones), chamber folk-pop band Joy Kills Sorrow and PHC regulars the DiGiallonardo Sisters. 5:45pm. $21-$71.

FILM: “Darkest Before Dawn” @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. The premiere of the movie filmed in and around the Capital Region, based on the novel by Arlene Brathwaite. 7pm. $15.
