Festival Fever: The Felice County Fair @ Opus 40, 8/31/13

Rolling Stone magazine declared Opus 40 in Saugerties to be “the best outdoor performance venue in the Northeast.” But it’s actually so much more than just a concert venue. A massive monument to the creative (and obviously obsessive) vision of sculptor Harvey Fite, Opus 40 is a work of art in itself, featuring thousands of tons of bluestonee, capped off with a nine-ton monolith that stands upright in the center of the sculpture with Overlook Mountain as a backdrop.

In recent years, there haven’t been many concerts at Opus 40, but the environmental sculpture will once again host a day of glorious music on Saturday, August 31 when the Felice County Fair takes over the grounds.

Gates open at 12noon and the all-day fest will continue til dusk, headlined by the Felice Brothers. Also scheduled to perform throughout the day’s festivities are Amy Helm, Marco Benevento, Connor Kennedy and the Paul Green Rock Academy Allstars.

Food will be available from a variety of local vendors and food trucks, while Keegan Ales will offer beverages.

Tickets for the fest are $25; VIP passes for $65; children ages 10 and under free. Partial proceeds from the event will benefit Catskill Mountainkeeper.
