7/10/13: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC/DANCE: The Maria Zemantauski Trio @ the Empire State Plaza at The Egg, Albany. As part of the outdoor lunchtime Made in the Shade of The Egg performance series, flamenco guitarist Maria Zemantauski is joined by percussionist Brian Melick and dancer La Nina, performing traditional and original music rooted in Spanish folk traditions. 12noon. MUSIC: Rusted Root @ Putnam Den, Saratoga Springs. Michael Glabicki (lead vocals, guitar) and Liz Berlin (vocals, percussion) lead the Pittsburgh-based world-beatsters as they roll into the Spa City in celebration of both their 20th anniversary and their new album, The Movement. But wait, there’s more… It’s also Putnam Den’s fourth anniversary, and the party includes lots of free ticket giveaways. And free music outdoors on the patio, too. With School Bus Yellow. $20.

MUSIC: Kansas @ the Empire State Plaza, Albany. The Summer At the Plaza concert series continues as veteran progressive rockers Kansas celebrate their 40th anniversary, pumping out such vintage hits as “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind.” With Arc & Stones and Crossfire. 5pm. FREE. UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, the concert has been moved indoors to the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

FILM/DISCUSSION: “Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present” @ Upstate Films, Rhinebeck. The HBO film documentary about performance art queen Marina Abramovic’s ground-breaking run at NYC’s Museum of Modern Art in 2010 will be screened. And, yes indeed, the artist will be present, in person, offering a post-screening Q&A. 8:15pm. $12; $11 seniors & students.

MUSIC: Rick Rourke & Lost Wages @ Shepard Park, Lake George. The Lake George Arts Project presents a concert by the soulful Rourke and hsi roots-rockin’ band in support of their new album, Three Sides to Every Story. 7:30pm. FREE.

DANCE: New York City Ballet @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Tonight’s program features Serenade (Tchaikovsky/Balanchine), Garland Dance (From The Sleeping Beauty) (Tchaikovsky/Balanchine), After the Rain Pas de Deux (Pärt/Wheeldon), Year of the Rabbit (Stevens/Peck) and Theme and Variations (Tchaikovsky/Balanchine). It’s also American Girl Night with live ponies, tea parties on the lawn with lemonade and cookies, crafts and entertainment. American Girl Night at 6pm; ballet at 8pm.

MUSIC: Funk Evolution @ Green Island Bridge parking lot, Troy. Two weeks ago, the sprawling, 11-piece Local 518 band of funkateers was opening for the mighty George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic at Albany’s Alive at Five. Tonight, they’re crossing the river for a horn-fueled headlining set of their own at the Rockin’ On the River concert series. 5pm. FREE. UPDATE: Outdoors rain or shine.

MUSIC: Alexis Haluska @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The Albany singer-songwriter (of Secondhand Roses) will be accompanied by Tom Doyle on fiddle. 7pm. $5.

THEATER: “Anything Goes” @ Proctors, Schenectady. The national tour of Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of Cole Porter’s timeless classic musical theater masterpiece. Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall and starring Rachel York as Reno Sweeney. 8pm. $20-$70. Through Sunday.
