Real Good for FREE: The Upper Madison Music Series

The annual Upper Madison Music Series kicks off tonight (Monday, July 15) with the Canjo 10’s, launching the six-concert series that offers a wide variety of musical styles – all for free.

The concerts take place at 7pm on Mondays throughout the summer on the lawn of the Albany Elks Club at 25 South Allen Street.

Here’s the schedule of bands performing at the 2013 Upper Madison Music Series:

TONIGHT (JULY 15)
The Canjo 10’s
A big mash up of pop, rock, bluegrass and folk
An eclectic acoustic trio dedicated to fusing pop, folk, Americana and rock into a big mess o’ fun. With Brett Sears on vocals and guitar; Sean Madden on guitar, banjo and vocals; and Alice Oldfather on vocals and fiddle, the Canjos aim to surprise, delight and keep the people happy.

JULY 22
Andy the Music Man
Children’s Night! Come sing along
Andy the Music Man mingles traditional and original songs and novelty, delighting and involving kids through sing-a-longs, dancing, play-acting and storytelling.

JULY 29
Will Hayes
Classical and contemporary cello
Will Hayes, a Cincinnati Conservatory of Music cellist, shares his love of music by playing popular songs as well as well-known classical melodies and compositions.

AUGUST 5
Katsura
Acoustic and electric pop, folk, and rock
An energetic and unique group of musicians who play a variety of musical styles from rock to alternative, from folk to pop. Katsura is a musical experience that features high-energy songs and funky rhythms.

AUGUST 12
Bear Bones Project
Acoustic jam band A five-piece acoustic and electric jam band with spirited harmonies and tasteful guitar work, the band mixes covers of Americana, Bay Area, southern rock, reggae and R&B favorites with their own melodic originals.

AUGUST 19
Sound Economy
Rock, and blues originals and covers
Albany-based four-piece band that features rock with an occasional lean towards punk, blues or pop. Sound Economy engages the listener with a fresh and energetic mix of covers and originals.
