Real Good for FREE: Rhythm On the Riverfront @ Beacon’s Long Dock Park

Returning for its third summer, Rhythm On the Riverfront is a free weekly concert series that takes place in Long Dock Park in Beacon throughout the month of August. At Long Dock’s tip is Beacon Point Project, a shoreline installation by renowned artist George Trakas, which projects out over the river (at high tide, water actually flows through it), making this a perfect place to fish, sunbathe, admire magnificent vistas of Newburgh Bay and, in this case, present concerts.

The concerts will take place at 5:30pm on Thursdays, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics.

Thursday (August 1)
THE LATIN JAZZ EXPLOSION
Led by Larry Moses, the Latin Jazz Explosion is a collaboration of Hudson Valley veteran musicians who are committed to bringing and keeping Latin Jazz music alive.

August 8
BILL MALCHOW & THE GO-CUP ALL STARS
The music of roots pianist-vocalist Bill Malchow percolates with New Orleans’ second-line style, melding the Crescent City styles of Allen Toussaint and Professor Longhair with the Harlem stride of Fats Waller.

August 15
TIN PAN
Fusing together strains of early 20th century jazz, blues and American popular song, Tin Pan describes their sound as “Ray Charles and Tom Waits at a Bourbon Street parade.”

August 22
THE BIG TAKEOVER
The New Paltz-based Big Takeover is a high energy sextet with an upbeat, groove-oriented, party-making approach to the Jamaican tradition of rocksteady, ska and reggae music.
