MUSIC: Doña Oxford @ Central Park’s Music Haven, Schenectady. It’s a homecoming show for the former Nippertonian, as the Goddess of Soul serves up a healthy dose of funk, soul and blues. The vocalist-pianist has played with the best, including Keith Richards, Bob Weir, Buddy Guy and Levon Helm. She brings her six-piece band to town in support of her brand-spankin’ new album, Soul Quest. 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Stony Creek Band @ the Stony Creek Inn, Stony Creek. The North Country’s premier band celebrates the release their new CD, Stony Creek Band Live! 6:30pm.

MUSIC: Hurray for the Riff Raff @ Colony Cafe, Woodstock. One of the break-out stars of last month’s Newport Folk Festival, in support of their new album, Look Out Mama. With one-man old-timey music revivalist Frank Fairfield. 9pm. $10.

TALK/FUNDRAISER: Roy Blount Jr. @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The award-winning author and humorist will speak about his latest project, “Alphabetter Soup: The Joy of Text,” at a benefit brunch for Columbia County Habitat for Humanity. 11:30am. $40.

MUSIC/ART: Professor Louie & the Crowmatix @ the Falcon, Marlboro. It’s a rip-roarin’ night of boogie woogie as the Professor meets the Commander – Commander Cody, that is. The two piano masters team up to celebrate the opening of the new art exhibition, “Cars & Stars: The Art of Commander Cody.” 7pm.

MUSIC: Danny Whitecotton @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The Texas-born troubadour celebrates the release of his sophomore CD, Love, War and Other Mistakes. 7pm. $14 in advance; $16 at the door.
