LIVE: Astrograss @ Rockin’ On the River, 8/7/13

Celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, Brooklyn-based band Astrograss held down the only non-tribute-band slot on the 2013 Rockin’ On the River free concert schedule.

As the series shifted mid-summer from the Green Island Bridge parking lot to the more audience-friendly Riverfront Park in Troy, guitarist-vocalist Jordan Shapiro and fiddler Sarah Alden led the band through their paces, rooted in bluegrass and old-timey music but with an eye (and an ear) toward the future.

Opening up the show was Saranac Lake’s Blind Owl Band, who began kicking up their tunes on the street, even before they hit the stage.
