A benefit concert for Sammy Yager, a Saratoga musician with the experimental music project Birthdays, who was involved in a bike accident July 25 which has left him in a coma. MUSIC: The Chronicles @ Jay Street, Schenectady. Wrapping up the summer’s Jazz on Jay lunchtime concert series with a blast of jazz-soul-funk… 12noon. FREE.
MUSIC: Big Sam’s Funky Nation @ Red Square, Albany. New Orleans’ trombone powerhouse-vocalist-bandleader “Big Sam” Williams leads his uber-funky combo into downtown Albany, following a rave-up performance at Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Fest earlier this summer. And it’s a double-header day for the Chronicles, who open the show. 9pm. $15.
