Desolation Road Studios Slated to Shutter Its Doors This Fall

Desolation Road Studios

Another one bites the dust…

I’ve written dozens live music venue obituaries over the years. It’s always sad, and it never gets any easier. So here’s the lowdown on the demise of Desolation Road Studios in Altamont from owner Jim Miller himself:

It is with a heavy heart and much anguish that I’ve decided to close the Desolation Road Studios location here in the beautiful Village of Altamont.

I’ve watched as several of my area compatriots – such as River St. Coop, Local Color and Broadway Arts Center – shut down and hoped I would not have to join them. The ongoing economic climate, marketing costs and personal issues have forced my hand.

The Studios will be open thru October 31… and possibly thru November 30. We’ll be having a 50% Off Mega-Art-Sale in the month of September to liquidate inventory. Consignment art will be available thru the end of October at regular prices.

Our summer concert series will continue until we close, and we have some great music coming up!

We hope you’ll take the opportunity to have a few last jobs done, attend a musical event or two and at least stop in to say goodbye. It’s been a great run and so much fun to be a part of the village for the
last four years.

Thank you to everyone who patronized the studios and bought local. Your business has been appreciated, and I want to personally thank each and every one of you for the opportunity to serve you both in the past and hopefully in the future.

Perhaps it true what they say. “When one door closes, another one opens.” I can only hope so…

Regards,
Jim Miller

  1. M.R. Poulopoulos says

As a songwriter who played Desolation Road, I’ll say that Jim is one of the most generous and welcoming hosts I’ve come across, certainly in the Capital District.

Get out and get local, folks. Too many shuttered windows.
