ArtBeat: What To See
Anselm Kiefer @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. MASS MoCA opens a 10,000 square-foot building devoted to the art of Anselm Kiefer. The exhibition will include Étroits sont les Vaisseaux (Narrow are the Vessels), an 82-foot long, undulating wave-like sculpture made of cast concrete, exposed rebar, and lead; The Women of the Revolution (Les Femmes de la Revolution) , comprised of more than twenty lead beds with photographs and wall text; Velimir Chlebnikov , a steel pavilion containing 30 paintings dealing with nautical warfare and inspired by the quixotic theories of the Russian mathematical experimentalist Velimir Chlebnikov; and a new, large-format commission created by the artist specifically for the installation at MASS MoCA. DownStreet Art Thursday @ Downtown North Adams. Festivities will include five new exhibits, as well as an extended run of Rich Remsberg’s “Historyland” at Gallery 53. Interdisciplinary artist Eliza Barrios will be at Gallery 51. At PRESS you’ll find the “Markings” exhibition. In addition to that we will have performances from musician James McBride, puppet company Mortal Beasts & Deities, as well as an interactive projection by Erin Ko and Alex Chouls. Museum Day Live! In the spirit of Smithsonian Museums, who offer free admission everyday, Museum Day Live! is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket… for free. Registration is required. There is a limit of one pair of tickets per household. Saturday, September 28 (only day only)
Saratoga 150: Then, Now and Beyond! @ Saratoga Arts, Saratoga Springs. In celebration of 150th anniversary of The Saratoga Race Course, this exhibition showcases works by regional artists that reflect on our region’s rich past, represent or comment on today, or envisions the future for the region. (Through September 28)
Also on display in the Sculpture Garden are works by Deborah Masters. On display in the Carriage House are paintings by Kim Uchiyama, Daisy Craddock and Lee Marshall and assemblages by Nancy Shaver.(Through October 6)
