MUSIC: Joseph Arthur @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. The singer-songwriter-poet-painter Joseph Arthur teams up with R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Dobrow for a concert in support of his brand new The Ballad of Boogie Christ Act 2, the second installment of his planned trilogy. FILM: “Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight” @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. Examining Muhammad Ali’s lengthy legal battle for conscientious objector status during the Vietnam War, director Stephen Frears shot much of his film in Schenectady and Albany. Starring Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella and Benjamin Walker. 7pm. FREE.

THEATER: “A Christmas Carol” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Michael Bush directs Broadway and Cap Rep fave Kevin McGuire star in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, at once funny and poignant. 2 & 7:30pm. $20-$60; $16 students. FILM: “Muscle Shoals” @ Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. Greg “Freddy” Camalier directed this new documentary about Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and Rick Hall, who overcame poverty and tragedy to bring black and white musicians together in Alabama’s cauldron of racial hostility to create music for the generations. Followed by a Skype interview with the director. 6:30pm. $10.
