12/19/13: Today’s Tips: Thursday

MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: Rosanne Cash @ the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. The sublime singer-songwriter makes her Music Hall debut in a benefit concert for CARES and the Capital Region Coalition to End Homelessness. A Grammy Award-winner and member of country music’s most illustrious family, Cash will perform hits from throughout her career (and hopefully preview her magnificent upcoming album, The River and the Thread) with her guitarist-producer-husband John Leventhal. 7:30pm. $28, $35 & $39. MUSIC: The Devon Allman Band @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The guitarist with the Royal Southern Brotherhood (and the son of Gregg Allman) brings his own band to town, playing his brand of bluesy guitar-rock in support of his recently released solo album, Turquoise. 8pm. $20.

MUSIC: Rhett Miller @ the Falcon, Marlboro. The front man and main songwriter of the hard-charging rock‘n’roll quartet the Old 97’s, as well as an accomplished solo artist. With Pat O’Shea. 7pm.

MUSIC: M.R. Poulopoulos @ American Glory BBQ, Hudson. 6:30pm.

THEATER: “A Christmas Carol” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Michael Bush directs Broadway and Cap Rep fave Kevin McGuire star in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, at once funny and poignant. 7:30pm. $20-$60; $16 students. Through December 22.

MUSIC: Dino Cimino @ the Stockade Inn, Schenectady. 7pm. FREE.

READING: Third Thursday Poetry Reading @ the Social Justice Center, Albany. Dan Wilcox hosts the reading with poet Tim Verhaegen as the featured reader. Also featuring the annual holiday visit from “Sanity Clause,” with a gift of poetry for all who read in the open mic. 7pm sign-up; 7:30pm reading. $3 suggested donation.
