FILM: “The Ghosts in Our Machine” @ Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. Award-winning filmmaker Liz Marshall directs through the heart and lens of acclaimed animal photographer Jo-Anne McArthur, resulting in a visually arresting, one-of-a-kind documentary that shines a cinematic light on the animals we don’t easily acknowledge. Followed by a Skype Q&A with the director. 6:30pm. $10.

CELEBRATION: New York State’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Memorial Observance @ the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Albany. Featuring music by the Capital District Community Voices of Praise, the Troy Children’s Chorus, Jeff Nania, Arielle King, Gedeon Luke, Amber McKay, Shaun Mykals, Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble, Geneatha Wright, more… 10am. MUSIC: Voodoo Orchestra North @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Drummer extraordinaire Bobby Previte leads an all-star line-up of musicians as they explore and expand on the music of Miles Davis’s eternal electric jazz-funk masterpiece, Bitches Brew. 8pm. $7.

MUSIC: Amy Helm & the Handsome Strangers @ the Falcon, Marlboro. The daughter of Levon Helm and Libby Titus continues her month-long Monday night residency with her band, featuring Byron Isaacs, Daniel Littleton and David Berger. 7pm. Donations encouraged.
