Record Store Day Sneak Peek: “7 Inches & Other Delights”
For nearly 30 years, Tufts University radio station WMFO-FM has been broadcasting a weekly radio program called “Bubbles in the Think Tank,” and for the past several years, the staff of the show has gathered together and produced an annual compilation to help celebrate Record Store Day (Saturday, April 19). What’s unique about the compilation is that it’s a record full of songs about records. All proceeds benefit the radio station.
This year’s edition is titled “7 Inches & Other Delights,” a nod to the classic Tijuana Brass album, of course. It’s a sizzling little seven-inch slab of white vinyl featuring six new, original and unreleased songs about records:
Travis, Shook & the New Club Wow: “Records ‘n’ Bubbles”
Chris Ligon: “All My Records Skip”
Darling Pet Munkee: “Mighty Tiny Record Player”
Jake & Ry: “Standin’ in the House of Oldies”
Ed “Moose” Savage: “I Got Records!”
Richard X. Heyman: “RXH’s Talkin’ Kickstarter Campaign Blues”
Printed in a limited edition of just 300 and with cover artwork by Jad Fair, the slab of vinyl also comes with a download card of four more special bonus tracks:
Fred “Freddy” Stockwell: Hooray For Record Store Day 2014
Blotto: “The B Side”
KTUF: “Long Player Record Poem”
The Hi-Risers: “I’m in Love With My Record Collection”
NOTE: Blotto, Nippertown’s own princes of pop parody, is slated to reunite next month for a show at the Low Beat in Albany on Saturday, May 31. Priced at $12, advance tickets are currently on sale.

Thank you for the kind words, Nippertown! Belinda and the ever-embiggening staff at Bubbles In The Think Tank always put their heart into these records, and it shows. 7 Inches & Other Delights is already selling like hotcakes! Now if we can only get it to sell like records. It’ll be available on Record Store Day at the River Street Beat Shop in Troy (along with live music from The Mysteios at 1 pm) and at better record stores everywhere.
