Comin’ Soon: New Concert Announcements

The 11-piece Ethiopian orchestra Debo Band is scheduled to play a free outdoor concert at Troy’s Freedom Square at 6pm on Friday, July 11. Concert-goers are invited to bring lawn blankets and chairs. The rain location for the show is Troy’s Sanctuary for Independent Media.

The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock has added a bunch of new concerts, including “Shadows & Light: An Evening of Joni Mitchell Songs” featuring Don Byron, Leslie Ritter, Christine Spero, Amy Fradon, Julie Last, Scott Petito and more at 9pm on Saturday, August 9 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); the Jack DeJohnette Trio (featuring Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison) at 8pm on Saturday, August 16 ($25 in advance; $30 at the door); reggae greats Third World with Royal Khaoz at 9pm on Friday, August 22 ($35 & $50); and Robbie Dupree & Friends at 8:45pm on Friday, August 29 ($20).

ON THE MOVE: Originally announced last month for Proctors, the concert by Michael Benedict & Bopitude with special guest alto saxophonist Sharel Cassity has been moved from the Schenectady theater to the Daily Grind in Troy at 7:30pm on Friday, July 25. The good news is that the ticket price has also dropped from $25 to just $15.

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES: The Gretchen Wilson concert slated for Saturday, July 19 at the Belleayre Music Festival has been cancelled. As a replacement for Wilson, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes will take over the Belleayre stage at 8pm on Saturday, July 19. Tent tickets are $36, $46, $56 & $66; $26 lawn admission.

The Old Songs Festival is over for another year, but Old Songs continues to present some fine folk music from around the globe. David Munnelly and Mick Conneely play traditional Irish music with fiddle, bouzouki and melodeon at Old Songs in Voorheesville at 8pm on Friday, August 15. Tickets are $23; $5 children 12 & under.

Newly announced concerts for the Colony Cafe in Woodstock include Tracy Bonham, Two Dark Birds, Aaron Maxwell and Marco Benevento at 8pm on Thursday (July 3) ($15); Rhett Miller and Rachael Yamagata at 9pm on Friday, July 11 ($20); Mike + Ruthy record release party for LoveLIFE, Vol. 1 at 8pm on Saturday, July 12.

Johnny Cash tribute artist Harold Ford steps into the spotlight at Saratoga Arts’ Dee Sarno Theater in Saratoga Springs for concerts at 7:30pm on Thursday and Friday, July 24 & 25. Laura Lucy joins him for some memorable Johnny & June duets. Tickets are $20.
