OPERA: “Ariadne in Naxos” @ Glimmerglass Opera, Cooperstown. Richard Strauss’ opera-within-an-opera features both lighthearted comedy and heroic grand opera, as two different performing troupes compete for the attention of a wealthy patron. MUSIC: The Philadelphia Orchestra @ SPAC, Saratoga Springs. Stéphane Denève conducts with special guest cellist Alisa Weilerstein joining in for a program that includes Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture, Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto, Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Respighi’s Pines of Rome. 8pm.
THEATER: “Tomorrow in the Battle” @ Stageworks/Hudson, Hudson. The drama by British playwright Kieron Barry had
its world premiere here in August, 2012 and was a smash hit. Now it’s back for a return engagement. 7:30pm. $24. Through August 31.

TALK: “The Process Is the Thing (Part 2)” @ Barrington Stage Co., Pittsfield. How does an author go back and reimagine a work that was created 25 years ago?
