Laughs All Around Nippertown: Get Yer Ha-Ha’s Out

A pair of Nippertown funnymen are launching a new stand-up comedy series at the Underground at Proctors in Schenectady. Ethan Ullman and Thomas Attila Lewis are kicking off their monthly comedy series, “Pretty Much the Best Comedy Show,” at 8pm tonight (Wednesday, August 27) with headliner Ahmed Bharoocha of the Comedy Central web series “Dead Kevin.” Ullman and Thomas will also perform, as well as a guest comedian yet-to-be-named. Tickets are $15.

Meanwhile, the Low Beat in Albany is branching out into comedy, too. The new monthly Low Down Comedy Open Mic Nights had their debut on Tuesday, August 12. Hosts Jim Felter and Carlisle Carey offer a venue for active comics to work out their material and new comics to get their feet in the water. Their slogan is, “Bring the funny, share the laughter!” The Low Down Comedy Open Mics take place on the second Tuesday of the month – September 9 is the next one. Sign up at 7:30pm; comedy at 8pm.

And that’s not all the funny stuff that’s going on at the Low Beat. Improv sketch comedy group, the Mop & Bucket Co., will also be taking over the stage for a handful of performances this fall. The first one is slated for Sunday, September 28.

Laughs are on tap at the Trojan Hotel and Tap Room in Troy, too. Veteran Local 518 stand-up comic Steve Van Zandt steps into the spotlight on Thursday, September 4. Erin Harkes and Dwayne Murphy Jr. will get the laughs rolling at 7pm. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.
