WORKSHOP/PERFORMANCE: Acoustic Ecology @ Skidmore College’s Tang Museum, Saratoga Springs. Artist Kamau Amu Patton leads an exploration of the soundscape of the Skidmore campus, practicing modes of attentive listening and thinking about the ways technology mediates our experiences of the landscape. 3pm. MUSIC: Shemekia Copeland @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The daughter of the Texas guitar legend Johnny Clyde Copeland, she’s got the blues in her blood. And she’s already established herself as a tour de force of her own with a closet full of W.C. Handy Awards and Blues Music Awards. 9pm. $25.

THEATER: “A Couple of Blaguards” @ Proctors’ GE Theatre, Schenectady. An Irish comedy, Frank and Malachy McCourt’s two-character play is a boisterous barroom autobiography full of humor, poignancy and insight. “Sanford and Son” regular Howard Platt directs and stars, while Jarlath Conroy also stars. 7:30pm. $20, $30 & $45.
MUSIC: The Virginia Gentleman @ the Half Moon, Hudson. The monthly rock’n’ roll themed party SmashCrashBash!! welcomes the New York punks. With the homegrown garage trio Hill Haints. 9pm. $6.
MUSIC: Tall Heights @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Spring. “Delicate melodies and gentle harmonies” are the heart of the folk-inspired cello-guitar-vocal music of Tim Harrington and Paul Wright. They create “a space where people can slow down” with “music that is pretty, passion-laden and catchy as hell,” according to Performer Magazine. 8pm. $17.
THEATER: “Other Desert Cities” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Pultizer Prize-winning playwright Jon Robin Baitz’s comedy/drama about prodigal daughter Brooke Wyeth, who returns to her Palm Springs Desert home to celebrate the holidays after six years away and announces plans to publish her childhood memoir – complete with revelations of deep family secrets. DANCE: Parsons Dance @ The Egg, Albany. The dance company celebrates its 30th anniversary with a performance of “Whirlaway” set to music by the legendary New Orleans R&B/pop composer Allen Toussaint.
