His distinctive Wurlitzer electric piano can be heard on everything from “Stay With Me” by the Faces to the smash hit “Miss You” by the Rolling Stones. His trademark Hammond B-3 organ is featured on the Small Faces classic “Itchycoo Park” as well as Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May” and “You Wear It Well.” He’s toured and/or recorded with a long line of rock legends from Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen to Paul Westerberg. His name is Ian McLagan, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is slated to make a tour stop at The Linda in Albany at 8pm on Monday, October 20, in support of his latest album, United States.
Club Helsinki hosts a double-bill with Lip Talk (formerly Railbird) and Yassou Benedict at 9pm on Saturday, October 25. Tickets are $12. Also Melora Creagor & the Calico Indians will be in residence at 8pm each Monday night in November. Tickets are $5 in advance; $7 at the door. Other new shows announced for Club Helsinki include the Big Takeover at 9pm on Friday, October 24 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); the return of New Orleans trombonist Glen David Andrews and his band at 9pm on Saturday, November 8 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); the return of Diamond Doves at 8pm on Thursday, November 13 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); and the triple-bill of master guitarist Alexander Turnquist with Sontag Shogun and Julia Kent at 8pm on Sunday, November 23 ($10 in advance; $12 at the door).
Matisyahu brings his annual Festival of Lights tour back to the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Thursday, December 18, in support of Akeda, his fifth studio album. Tickets are currently on sale, priced at $20 in advance; $22 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Al B. Sure!, ’80s new jack swingster headlines the Thanksgiving Super Soul Fest at The Egg in Albany. He’ll be joined by Jeff Redd, Fonda Rae, Cupid and MC Stik-E with DJ A-Mix.
RE-SCHEDULED: The Cher concert at Albany’s Times Union Center – which was scheduled and postponed twice so far – has now been re-scheduled for 7:30pm on Thursday, December 4. Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo are still slated to open the show.
And there’s no shortage of laughs around Nippertown with the upcoming line-up of acts headed into the Comedy Works in Albany. Bobcat Goldthwaite does his thing Friday and Saturday nights (October 10 & 11). Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door. He’ll be followed by Robert Kelly on November 7 & 8 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door), Jake Johanssen on November 14 & 15 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door) and Louie Anderson on November 21 & 22 ($30 in advance; $35 at the door). There are two shows each night – 7:30 & 9:30pm.

Led by bassist-producer Aston “Family Man” Barrett, reggae legends the Wailers will be making a stop at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield at 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 3, as a part of their upcoming U.S. tour. Best known as Bob Marley’s band until his death, the Wailers will be performing Bob Marley & the Wailers’ iconic greatest hits album, Legend, in its entirety, marking the 30th anniversary of the album’s release in 1984. Legend is the best selling reggae album of all time. Tickets for the Wailers’ concert in Pittsfield are currently on sale, priced at $30, $40 & $50.
POSTPONED: ZZ Top was originally slated to perform at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston on Sunday, October 19, but due to an injury to bassist Dusty Hill, the concert has been postponed to 8pm on Friday, March 13.
The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock is hosting “Ladies of the Valley,” a benefit concert for Family of Woodstock’s Crisis Hotline & Walk-In Center featuring Hudson Valley musicians performing songs by the legends who influenced them as well as songs of their own. Among the performers lined-up are Simi Stone, Elizabeth Mitchell, Amy Helm, Sarah Fimm, Donna Lewis, Lindsey Webster, Lisa Green, Olivia Gabriel, Maralina Gabriel, Connor Kennedy & Minstrel and others. Showtime is 7pm on Sunday, November 9, and tickets are $35, $50 & $75.
OPENERS: Kip Chapman has been tapped to open the show for OK Go at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Tuesday (October 14)… At Club Helsinki in Hudson on Thursday, October 15, Reid Paley will open for Black Francis, in addition to performing with him. (NOTE: Tommy Stinson of the Replacements will also be dropping by to to join Black Francis as a special guest. Pixies meet Replacements?)… Northampton’s the Sun Parade will open for Lake Street Dive at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 8pm on Sunday, November 23.
