Be Here Now: Black Francis @ Club Helsinki on Wednesday

David Bowie declared that the Pixies made “just about the most compelling music of the entire ’80s.” Bono of U2 went one step further, calling the Pixies “one of America’s greatest bands ever.” And Thom Yorke of Radiohead proclaimed, “The Pixies changed my life.”

Indie-rock pioneers the Pixies – indie-rock pioneers and one of the most influential bands of the past quarter century – have been back in the spotlight again with a tour that wrapped up last weekend.

But there’s no rest for Pixies’ bandleader-singer-songwriter Black Francis (aka, Frank Black or Charles Thompson IV, which is his given name), who has immediately launched a solo mini tour that’s slated to make a stop at Club Helsinki in Hudson on Wednesday (October 15).

Doors open at 6pm; music starts at 8pm with Reid Paley, who will not only warm up the crowd for Francis, but who will also accompany him during his headlining set.

But wait, there’s more… Also joining in the musical festivities with Francis will be none other than Tommy Stinson, a founding member of the Replacements, who wrapped up another string of reunion tour dates at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas last weekend.

So Club Helsinki will be serving up a kind of alt-rock summit – the Pixies meet the Replacements. You’re not gonna want to miss this one…

Tickets are $25.

LIVE: Paley & Francis @ Valentine’s Music Hall, 9/7/11
