11/3/14: Today’s Tips: Monday
MUSIC: Mondays with Melora @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. It’s the first of a month-long Monday night residency led by Melora Creager (cello, banjo, vocals) of Rasputina and her all-star band featuring stand-up bassist Chops LaConte (the Lustre Kings), accordionist-ukulele player-musical saw-ster Ryder Cooley (Dust Bowl Faeries), pianist-vocalist Luis Mojica and drummer Timothy Oakley (Phantogram, the Mathematicians). Special guests may include singer-violinist Eszter Balint, Kiki *d and Wild Boy with Clare Felice. 8pm.
MUSIC: Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys @ McGeary’s Pub, Albany. Bluegrass and Jim’s snappy songs. 7:30pm. FREE.
MUSIC: Kvelertak @ the Hollow Bar + Kitchen, Albany. In the midst of their tour opening for Mastodon, Kvelertak plays a headlining show downtown. 8pm. $15.
READING: Julia Elliott @ Bard College Olin Humanities Building’s Room 104, Annandale-On-Hudson. The winner of a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award and a Pushcart Prize will read from her debut short-story collection, “The Wilds,” which Publishers Weekly describes as “a brilliant combination of emotion and grime, wit and horror…” 2:30pm. FREE.
