MUSIC: Nels Cline & Julian Lage @ The Egg’s Swyer Theatre, Albany. MUSIC: Capital Underground Live @ Bombers, Troy. Ralph Renna hosts the weekly Local 518 music showcase. Featuring Crimson Tips, Mike & Amy Shift the Paradigm and Kristen Riley. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Blues Pro Jam 8 @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Vocalist Lex Grey headlines the 8th Blues Pro Jam, anchored by the Club Helsinki House Band featuring Vic Mix, Guy Nirelli, Sonny Rock (drums), Cameron Melville (Hammond B-3 organ), Petey Hop (guitars and vocals) and Vinny Leggiere (bass). The event welcomes all working musicians in the region to sit in for a freewheeling blues jam. 8pm.

READING: Richard Norton Smith @ UAlbany’s Page Hall, Albany. For the keynote lecture of the Researching New York 2014 conference, the historian-biographer reads from and talks about his new, 14-years-in-the-making book, “On His Own Terms: A Life of Nelson Rockefeller.” 7:30pm. FILM/TALK: “Voices from the Emotional Underground” @ the Sanctuary for Independent Media, Troy. A hopeful evening of transformative films offering alternative perspectives from people who have experienced the mental health system. The evening includes “Crooked Beauty” (5:30pm); potluck dinner (6pm); “Beyond the Medical Model” (excerpts) and “The Virtues of Non Compliance” (7pm); panel and forum (8:15pm). $10 suggested donation; $5 student/low income.

FILM: “Microbirth” @ the Linda, Albany. The documentary looks at birth in a whole new way; through the lens of a microscope. The film investigates the latest scientific research that is starting to link the way babies are born with health in later life, particularly the increased risk of children developing certain immune-related conditions, including asthma, type 1 diabetes, celiac (coeliac) disease, obesity, cardio-vascular diseases, mental health disorders and even some cancers. 7pm. $8.
