First Night Saratoga is a fabulous New Year’s Eve smorgasbord of music and more, all crammed into a six-hour period from 6pm-12midnight on Wednesday, December 31. The largest New Year’s Eve celebration in New York State outside of NYC, the annual all-around-town extravaganza also rings in the 100th anniversary of Saratoga Springs’ incorporation as a city.
This year, the fest features more than 70 regional and touring performance groups to over 30 venues throughout the historic downtown Saratoga Springs district for an evening of live music, dance, comedy and more. And it’s all capped off with a midnight fireworks display from Congress Park.
A full range of musical genres are represented, from country-rock (18 Strings of Trouble, Dry Town Drifters, Red Haired Strangers) to ’60s retro (Betsy & the ByeGons, Big Fez & the Surfmatics) to dixieland jazz (Brass & Blues) to real-deal folk (Phil Henry, Don White) to eclectic world music (Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius & Heard).
Yes, there’s something for everyone. Simply buy a button for $15, which allows you admittance to all First Night Saratoga events. Children age 12 and under are free with a paid adult. And CDTA is providing free shuttle and bus trips to all of the venues throughout town.
