Ian McLagan passed away today after reportedly suffering a stroke in his adopted hometown of Austin yesterday. He was 69 years old.
McLagan was slated to kick off a holiday tour with Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets tonight in Minneapolis.
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer McLagan was the keyboardist with the Small Faces and the Faces. A genuine, dyed-in-the-wool rock’n’roller, McLagan was something of rock Zelig, who also played the Rolling Stones and a long line of rock legends from Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen to Paul Westerberg.
McLagan played a concert at The Linda in Albany just six weeks ago in support of his latest album, United States on Yep Roc Records. He was scheduled to perform at The Egg with Nick Lowe and Los Straightjackets on Friday, December 19.

Bobby Keys and Mac. Two giants whose music will live on.
Horrible – This is upsetting me more than I could have predicted.
A tragedy – December 19th won’t be the same.
Astonished, I had a great time at the show he gave at the Linda, and got to hang out and chat with him for awhile. I’m heartbroken.
