COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

The venerable (and still very vibrant) torchbearers of the New Orleans jazz tradition, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band are scheduled to parade into the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock second line-style at 9pm on Friday, April 4. Tickets are $35, $55, $65 & $79.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg in Albany has added six new concerts to its 2015 calendar – Hal Ketchum, Tom Paxton, Asleep at the Wheel, Leo Kottke, the New Riders of the Purple Sage and Jubilee Riots (formerly Enter the Haggis). Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 19).

Too critically acclaimed envelope-pushing pop artists – Perfume Genius and Jenny Hval – will be teaming up for a double bill at the BSP Lounge in Kingston at 9pm on Wednesday, March 25. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Tommy Stinson (of the Replacements and Guns ‘N Roses) teams up with Happiness (featuring members of Deer Tick) to headline the benefit concert Home Bass 2: A Little Help for Our Friends at Club Helsinki in Hudson. Also featured in the evening’s festivities will be Rhett Miller (of the Old 97’s), Elvis Perkins, Dust Bowl Faeries, Jesse Malin, Ruby Stinson and more.

Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs plays host to an unplugged performance by Brett Scallions of the band Fuel (as well as a more recent incarnation of the Doors) at 8pm on Wednesday, February 25. Also coming up on the Den’s spring calendar is the return of Melvin Seals & JGB at 9pm on Thursday, March 12. Tickets for each show are $20; $25 for those under age 21.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: In Cooperstown, Brewery Ommegang has announced the first of its outdoor summer concerts – a double-bill with the Avett Brothers and John Prine. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 19).

Here’s a great double-bill coming to the Calvin Theatre in Northampton – Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn and Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. The concert is slated for 8pm on Thursday, April 16. Both acts will play full headline sets. Giddens will play with a full band, including the current Carolina Chocolate Drops line-up. Fleck and Washburn will play as a duo. Priced at $25, $35 & $45, tickets will go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 19).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park announced two big shows – the SnoCore Tour (featuring Flyleaf, Adelitas Way, Framing Hanley and Fit for Rivals) and They Might Be Giants.

Normal Instruments _ the all-star combo featuring Jeff Bujak with Michael Carter (from the Indobox), Jules Jenssen (from Higher Organix) and Matt Beckett (from Cosmic Dust Bunnies) is back together for their fourth annual tour, and they’ll be making a stop at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9:30pm on Friday, January 23 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door). Also new on the Hollow’s schedule are Melanie Martinez (Top 6 contestant on NBC-TV’s “The Voice” in 2012) at 8pm on Saturday, January 24 ($15) and dance-popster Genevieve at 8pm on Thursday, February 5 ($10 in advance; $12 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Mountain Jam at Hunter Mountain in Hunter announced the three headliners for the upcoming 2015 festival – Black Keys, moe. and Gov’t Mule. Early bird tickets are on sale now…

Jazz pianist Marilyn Crispell serves up a two-set concert at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock at 8pm on Tuesday, December 30. Tickets are $15. Also at the Colony, the multi-talented Simi Stone brings Mountain Motown sound for a benefit concert for multiple sclerosis at 7pm on Sunday, December 28. Tickets are $10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Nine-tine Grammy Award-winner Sheryl Crow – who has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide – teams up with the Boston Pops Orchestra in her return to Tanglewood in Lenox this summer.

The Windham Chamber Music Festival presents a special concert by the duo of pianist Lynne Arriale and jazz guitar great Larry Coryell at 8pm on Saturday, January 3 at the Windham Civic Centre Concert Hall in Windham. Tickets are $25; $22 seniors; $5 students.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Linda in Albany has announced three new concerts for the new year – The Winter Wake-up & Shake-Up (featuring Sandy McKnight & the Idea, the Lazy Suns and SunSlab); Lost Leaders with the Sea the Sea; and Steve Forbert.

Boston-based bluegrass band Barnstar! – featuring Zachariah Hickman (recently seen around Nippertown playing bass with Ray LaMontagne and Josh Ritter), Mark Erelli, Charlie Rose, Taylor “Old Train” Armerding and Jake Armerding – is headed into Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Friday, February 6. Tickets are $15 in advance: $18 at the door.

Troy’s booming singer-songwriter Sean Rowe – whose Anti- Records album Madman is certainly one of the top homegrown albums of the year – has a pair of upcoming area appearances. He’ll be at the Tavern at the Williams Inn in Williamstown at 7:30pm on Saturday, January 17 ($12) and at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs at 7pm on Sunday, January 18 with Anthony Prezio opening the show ($25 in advance).

OPENERS: Sammy Wilk and Nate Maloley & Dylan Holland have been newly added to the bill for the Electri-Con Tour which makes a stop at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 7:30pm on Friday, January 16.
