Congrats, Club Helsinki!

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the first open-to-the-public live music performance at Club Helsinki in Hudson, as the always eclectic Spotiswoode & His Enemies stepped into the spotlight back on May 1, 2010. And, of course, Nippertown.com was there…

So in honor of the anniversary, we’re taking a look back at our review of that very first show:

Saturday night was the unofficial opening of the long-awaited Club Helsinki Hudson, as the new Hudson nightspot hosted the first of its soft-opening Sound Check Series of performances.

Co-owner Marc Schafler took the stage before the band to offer a few, very brief opening remarks and thank the many hands that brought the big, old building to life during the past several years.

He surveyed the sold-out crowd and said, “We’re finally able to answer the question, ‘When?'” He paused for a moment and smiled. “The answer is, ‘Now.'”

And don’t forget, tonight’s (Friday, May 1) anniversary party at Club Helsinki in Hudson features Nippertown’s own booming troubadour Sean Rowe with Matthew Fowler. Showtime is 9pm, and tickets are $20.
