Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Announces New Concert

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall has announced the second concert for its upcoming 2015-2016 season – the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain’s 30 Plucking Years. The UK ukes’ anniversary concert is slated to roll into Troy at 8pm on Friday, October 9. Their collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies features a repertoire that ranges from Nirvana to Tchaikovsky to spaghetti western soundtracks.

Over the last 29 years, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain has spawned hundreds of imitators, and you can now find Ukulele ensembles in nearly every major city, and in fact,
the Orchestra is often blamed for the current uke revival which is sweeping the globe. They have gone on to perform sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Formed in 1985 as a bit of fun, their first gig was an instant sell-out, and they’ve been performing ever since. In June, the Orchestra will have clocked up 16,000,000 minutes of ukulele action, and by September, 2016, the Orchestra will have been active for 1,000,000,000 seconds.

Priced at $15, $25, $29 & $36, tickets are currently available to Music Hall members. Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (May 29).
