MUSIC: Jonah Parzen-Johnson @ the Spotty Dog, Hudson. The experimental baritone saxman celebrates the release of his new solo sax/synth album, Remember When Things Were Better Tomorrow, which includes a cover of Neil Young’s “On the Way Home.” With Destroyer of Worlds and Chrisman/McLaughlin Duo. 8pm. $5.

MUSIC: Steve Forbert @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter – best known for hit songs “Romeo’s Tune” and “Goin’ Down to Laurel” – was touted as a “new Dylan” when he burst upon the scene in downtown New York in the mid-1970s. Now he’s in the midst of a creative revival with Compromised, his first album of new songs in several years, due out this summer, and his memoir, “Steve Forbert: Beyond the Chandelier,” scheduled for publication in the fall. 8pm.

THEATER: “Pippin” @ Proctors, Schenectady. With a sparkling score by Tony nominee Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell,” “Wicked”), the classic musical tells the story of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence. Will he choose a happy but simple life? Or will he risk everything for a singular flash of glory? This captivating new production is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and stars Adrienne Barbeau, Sam Lips, John Rubinstein, Sasha Allen and others. 1:30 & 8pm. $20-$80. Through Sunday. THEATER: “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” @ Curtain Call Theatre, Latham. Christopher Durang’s smash-hit Broadway comedy and winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play is a wacky nod to Chekhov.
