COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements
Helping to kick off the opening weekend of the Saratoga track season, the ever-rollicking Commander Cody & His Modern Day Airmen bring their rumblin’ roadhouse boogie woogie to the Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs at 8pm on Saturday, July 25. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door; $30 VIP.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The adventurous indie-pop orchestra Mother Falcon is teaming up with superb singer-songwriter-cellist Ben Sollee for an evening at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday.
CH-CH-CH-CHANGES: Janka Nabay & the Bubu Gang were originally slated for a concert at MASS MoCA in North Adams on Saturday (July 18), but a family emergency has forced Nabay to return to his home in Sierra Leone, and the performance has been cancelled. Fortunately for fans of African music, the folks at MASS MoCA were able to book Grammy-nominated Malian ngoni master Cheick Hamala Diabate to fill the hole in the schedule. Diabate is slated to perform outdoors on MASS MoCA’s Dré Wapenaar Pavilion (or inside at Club B-10 in the case of rain) at 8pm on Saturday (July 18). Tickets are $12 in advance; $18 at the door; $24 preferred.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Joe Jackson made a name for himself as a new wave rocker with such hits as “Sunday Papers” and “Is She Really Going Out With Him,” but since then he’s explored everything from jazz to classical music. Now he’s headed into The Egg in support of his upcoming pop album, Fast Forward. Tickets go on sale at 11am on Friday (July 17).
As previously announced, Terrance Simen & the Zydeco Experience are playing a free show at Lake George’s Shepard Park on Wednesday, August 26, but now they’ve added another Nippertown show to their tour. They’ll take the stage at the Newberry Music Hall in Saratoga Springs at 9pm on Friday, August 28 (which just happens to be Travers’ Eve). Tickets for the Newberry show are $18 in advance; $20 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Stand-up comedian Craig Ferguson is bringing his laugh-filled show to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 17).
The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park has bolstered its schedule with a couple of new shows. Heavy metal veterans Unearth will be joined by Fit for an Autopsy for a head-bangin’ evening at 7pm on Sunday, August 23. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $15 in advance; $18 at the door. And the Seven Seas Tour 2015 featuring Emancipator Ensemble, Wax Tailor and YPPAH takes over UCH at 8pm on Tuesday, October 13 for a throbbing dance party. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 17, priced at $17 in advance; $22 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Vermont-based rocker Grace Potter has left the Nocturnals behind, and she’ll be roaring into Albany’s Palace Theatre with a new band in support of her upcoming debut solo album, Midnight. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday.
The Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany has added a handful of new shows, including Life in Film at 9pm on Saturday, August 22 ($1.27); Particle with DrFameus at 9:30pm on Thursday, October 1 ($15); Quiet Company at 9pm on Friday, November 13 ($15).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg has added yet another pair of new shows. Alan Doyle of the Canadian Celtic folk-rock band Great Big Sea steps into the spotlight leading his own Alan Doyle Band in support of his sophomore solo album, So Let’s Go. And the unclassifiable Leftover Salmon will be taking over the spotlight with a blast of their self-described “Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass” sound in support of their latest album, High Country. Tickets for both shows go on sale at 11am on Friday (July 17).
U.S. Elevator – the psychedelic rock collaboration project between eclectic folkies Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irions and San Francisco-based production team the Rondo Brothers – lands at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 9pm on Saturday, September 12. Ticket prices TBA.
Blues-rocker Jonny Lang is headed into the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Saturday, October 10. Opening the show is the Record Company. Tickets go on sale on Friday (July 17), priced at $25, $35 & 45.
UPDATE: It looks like John Sebastian will be a special guest performer sitting in with the Jim Kweskin Jug Band Reunion at The Egg on Wednesday, July 22…
