COMIN’ SOON: This Week’s New Concert Announcements
In Hudson, Montreal’s majestic post-rock kingpins Godspeed You! Black Emperor are slated to take over Basilica Hudson at 8pm on Tuesday, September 8 with a concert in support of their new album, Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress. Opening the show will be Xylouris White, a collaboration between legendary Cretan lute player George Xylouris and underground music icon Jim White. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $20 in advance; $25 at the door.

The Ale House in Troy will host a concert by Texas rockabilly-popsters the Bellfuries at 8pm on Sunday, September 27. Tickets are $10.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Tool’s Maynard James Keenan brings his side-project band Puscifer to the Palace Theatre in Albany. Opening the show is Luchafer. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (August 21).
Veteran Texas tunesmith Ray Wylie Hubbard rumbles into The Hangar in Troy at 8pm on Saturday, October 24. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.
The Chainsmokers, one of America’s hottest electronic dance music DJ duos, will be kickin’ out the jams at Northampton’s Calvin Theatre at 7pm on Tuesday, November 3. They’ll be joined by LOUDPVCK, Matoma, Speaker of the House and Luca Lush. Priced at $25, tickets go on sale on Friday (August 21).

Down in Woodstock at the Bearsville Theater, things are heating up with the announcement of new concerts by New Orleans funkateers Dumpstaphunk at 8pm on Wednesday, September 9 ($20); former J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf at 9pm on Friday, October 9 ($25, $45 & $55); Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad with the Simpkin Project at 8pm on Wednesday, October 28 ($15); Doors tribute band Feast of Friends at 9pm on Saturday, October 31 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door); and Dopapod with the Nth Power at 9pm on Saturday, November 14 ($18).
The Sword returns to the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park on Thursday, December 3. Royal Thunder opens the show at 8pm. Priced at $18 in advance; $20 at the door, tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (August 21).
Planet Arts is presenting a pair of upcoming duo concerts at the Beattie-Powers House in Catskill. At 2pm on Sunday, September 20, it’s the sublime sax and piano duo of Sharel Cassity & Bruce Barth, and at 2pm on Sunday, October 4, it’s the piano and bass duo of Jim McNeely & Martin Wind. Tickets are $15 for each show.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Legendary funnyman Mel Brooks makes a rare live appearance at Proctors in Schenectady, where he’ll tell stories and conduct a Q&A session with the audience in conjunction with a screening of his classic film comedy, “Blazing Saddles.” Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Thursday (August 20).
Multimedia comedian McQueen brings the laughs to Albany’s Madison Theater at 8pm on Friday, September 18. Tickets are sale sale now, priced at $10.
SOLD OUT: The concert by red-hot retro-rocker J.D. McPherson at The Hangar in Troy on Monday, August 31, is now officially sold out.
Brad Roberts – the booming baritone voice of the Crash Test Dummies – rolls into the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton for a solo show at 7pm on Monday, September 21. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $15 in advance; $18 at the door. Also new on the Iron Horse schedule is Howie Day, who steps into the spotlight at 7pm on Sunday, September 27. Tickets are $17.50 in advance; $20 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: We first announced it last month, but now the folks at Albany’s Times Union Center have confirmed the upcoming concert by Hootie & the Blowfish front-turned-country hitmaker Darius Rucker with opening acts David Nail and Cam. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (August 21).
Club Helsinki in Hudson welcomes Jonah Smith with Andy Stack at 8pm Thursday, August 27 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door), and Tall Heights at 9pm on Friday, November 6 ($15).
CANCELLED: The concert by stand-up comedian/actor Mike Epps that was originally slated for Albany’s Palace Theatre on Saturday, September 26 has been cancelled.
It’s another tribute band double-header at Glens Falls’ Wood Theater, as Gavan Rousseau leads the Jersey Seasons in concert at 7pm on Saturday, October 10. The Best of Doo Wop opens the show. Tickets are $30 in advance; $35 at the door.
