THEATER: “4000 Miles” @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. It’s opening night! Amy Herzog’s Obie Award-winning odd couple dramatic comedy kicks off the 2015-16 season at Cap Rep. He’s a millennial, 21, a ball of energy and contradictions still taking shape with every word he utters. She’s his grandmother, a Greenwich Village lefty, 70 years his senior, and cut from even older cloth, wise enough to know when to hold her tongue. Directed by Stephen Nachamie. 7:30pm. $20-$50.

READING: Ann Beattie @ UAlbany Performing Arts Center’s Recital Hall, Albany. As one of America’s most celebrated practitioners of the short story form, she has received the 2000 PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction and the 2005 Rea Award for the Short Story in addition to having work featured in numerous prize anthologies. Her new book is “The State We’re In: Maine Stories.” With poet Peg Boyers. 8pm. FREE. ALSO, a free seminar at UAlbany Science Library’s Standish Room, Albany. 4:15pm.
