Jackie Greene rolls into Club Helsinki in Hudson for a rare two-night stand at 9pm on Friday & Saturday, December 4 & 5. The show is billed as an acoustic evening. Tickets are $25 & $35. Other newly announced concerts on the Club Helsinki calendar are roots-blues guitarist David Jacobs-Strain at 9pm on Friday, November 20 ($15); Elvis Perkins in support of his new album I Aubade at 8pm on Thursday, December 10 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door); Club d’Elf & John Medeski at 8pm on Sunday, December 20 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); the annual Elvis Birthday Bash led by Mark Gamsjager & the Lustre Kings at 9pm on Friday, January 15 ($15 in advance; $20 at the door); the Lavender Blues at 9pm on Friday, January 22 ($TBA); the one and only Aaron Neville at 8pm on Thursday, March 17 ($65 & $95); and Vieux Farka Toure at 8pm on Sunday, April 3 ($TBA).
The Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park has added a few new shows to its upcoming concert calendar, including Starset at 8pm on Friday, October 30 ($8 in advance; $10 at the door); Hinder with Shaman’s Harvest and Within Reason at 8pm on Wednesday, November 25 ($10.30 in advance; $20 at the door; on sale Friday) and Matt & Kim with Good Old War and Grizfolk at 8pm Saturday, December 19 ($25 in advance; $28 at the door; on sale Friday).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Acclaimed Celtic band Altan and the Grammy Award-winning Harlem Quartet have been added to the concert calendar at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Tickets are on sale now.
Here’s a blast from the past… Martha Davis & the Motels will be checking into the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton for a show at 7pm on Tuesday, December 8. Their reign in the late ‘7os and early ’80s produced such hits as “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer.” Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Also newly announced for the Iron Horse are Chicago instrumental quintet Tortoise in support of their first studio album in nearly seven years, The Catastrophist. The concert takes place at 8:30pm on Monday, March 14, and tickets are $16.50 in advance; $20 at the door.
Woodstock favorites Professor Louie & the Crowmatix make a stop at WAMC-FM’s The Linda in Albany at 8pm on Saturday, December 12. Tickets are $12.
The BSP Lounge in Kingston welcomes the Defiant Ones (featuring members of Bad Brains) at 8pm on Saturday, October 24 ($12 in advance; $15 at the door); Ra Ra Riot at 8pm on Friday, November 6 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door); Matt Pond PA with Laura Stevenson and Completions at 8pm on Friday, November 20 ($15 in advance; $18 at the door); and Surfer Blood at 7:30pm on Monday, November 23 ($13 in advance; $15 at the door).
Jazz band Bopitude serves up its next drum battle at the Cohoes Music Hall at 7:30pm on Saturday, November 14. Drummers Michael Benedict, Pete Sweeney, Bob Halek and percussionist Brian Melick will face off against each other, accompanied by Bopitude. Tickets are available now, priced at $15; $10 students.

In support of It Was Beauty (his 20th album as a bandleader), jazz pianist Orrin Evans plays a free concert at Williams College’s Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall in Williamstown at 3pm on Sunday, October 25.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ciaran Sheehan – the Dublin-born Celtic singer and Broadway star of “The Phantom of the Opera” – is scheduled to return to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, after making his Capital Region debut there last year.
Brandi Carlile brings her winter acoustic tour to the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie at 8pm on Saturday, December 5, in support of her latest album, The Firewatcher’s Daughter. Priced from $50-$100, tickets are currently available to members and will go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (October 16).
